Helping Hands Animal Rescue (HHAR) is a Melbourne, Victoria based animal rescue group, run entirely by volunteers, which aims to rescue wildlife, domestic pets, farm animals and to treat introduced species humanely.
Northern Suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria
We operate primarily in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and, for the rescue of domestic pets, we run a small community network of foster carers.
native wildlife
We rescue and rehabilitate native wildlife such as wombats and reptiles and have a fully licensed shelter operating under the guidelines of DEWLP.
HHAR have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed many farm animals that, if not, their outlook would have been bleak and they include lambs, chickens, and horses.
We believe that no animal should suffer simply because it exists in the wrong eco system. All animals are dealt with humanely and according to the law.
It is not just about animals - we care for the environment and people too.
Helping the Elderly
Some time ago, we received a frantic call from the friend of an elderly woman. The poor woman's beloved pet had passed away at her feet and she was powerless to do anything as he was a large dog. Her friend had made numerous call to different agencies to obtain help but no one was either willing or able. Heidi attended and conveyed the ladies' pet to the local vet. The deceased pet was treated with dignity and according to the wishes of the distraught owner.
adoptions
Our pets available for adoption. All our pets are desexed (no exceptions), microchipped, vaccinated, and treated for parasites. They are cared for in the homes of our volunteers and are socialised as much as possible. Any vet treatment needed is provided.
Churu came into care after being surrendered with a broken leg, but losing that limb hasn't stopped him at all. From day one, it was as though he always had three, nothing has ever stood in his way.
It's been hard work but we are proud of our numbers.*
*We have been helped this year by grants available through the Victorian Government which have helped keep our heads above water but we still rely on donations to enable us to continue to save as many pets that we can fit within our foster network.
Donations
We are a small tight-knit rescue and receive no government or other funding.** We are a registered charity and provide tax-deductible receipts for donations. All donations are gratefully received and 100% of all donations go toward the associated costs of animals in our care.
**We have been very lucky this financial year to receive some grants from Animal Welfare Victoria to assist with the veterinary costs of desexing and other treatments.
Our volunteers pay for most things out of there own pockets so every cent we can raise to help off set that just means that we can help more animals!
